10,000 Questions

Everyone has questions, and we are on a mission to gather 10,000 questions about God, life, and faith from students all over the US. We desire to listen, learn, and through our answers show the goodness of Jesus.

Question Nights

What does a typical question event look like?

A member of our team will start the event by introducing the project and how grateful we are to have the student’s voices represented in it. If the setting allows, we also like to share briefly about how Jesus responds to questions from Matthew 11.

Each student receives a handout where they can submit as many questions as they’d like–these cards are collected at the end of the night.  For the remainder of the time, we use an online platform where students can submit their questions following different prompts, their questions appear on a screen, and are then voted on by those in the room.

The questions with the highest number of votes will rise to the top, and those are the questions that get answered live.  We usually do 3 or 4 rounds of prompts, and end the time with a quick wrap up by either our team member or the group lead.

We are happy to answer questions, but we prefer to set up local leadership to answer questions and speak directly to the students they serve.  This typically looks like our team emcee-ing the question submission, and posing the questions to be answered to the youth worker, Pastor, or (a favorite!) a panel.

Yes, all questions submitted are anonymous, this is very important to us.  We don’t collect any names, email addresses, etc., either through the digital platform or handouts.  We give the option on the handout to submit your age and zip code, but it is not required.

An hour is the sweet spot—and typically goes fast due to how interactive it is.  However, we can easily do a little more or a little less.

We’ve done events in public school classrooms, juvenile detention centers, living rooms, around bonfires, at youth conferences, and at large and small youth groups and after school programs. While above is a description of a ‘typical’ night, we can build a high-tech or low-tech option as needed based on the needs of the group, as well as adjust the flow of the event as needed.  We want all kinds of students represented in this project, and we know that requires flexing to different types of environments–let’s talk about what would work best for your group!

Question night

Testimonials

I truly think that this is an event that every student needs to attend! Not only is it creating a safe place for students to ask hard questions anonymously, but it does so with the intent of answering those questions. Kids are always on guard both with family, friends, and spiritual leaders because the culture they grow up in today is trying to force a lot on them without them getting to ask the questions that really matter. Our students who came loved the event, and because some of the questions were so good, we got the chance to continue talking about them afterwards too! “10,000 questions” is taking this challenge head on, and I am so excited to see what the Lord does through it!

This event with Val was so important and needed. Questions are at the core of Jesus' ministry and it is life-giving when we make space for them with our students!
